Patricia Mukhim

Patricia Mukhim is an Indian social activist, writer, journalist and the editor of Shillong Times. She was bestowed with Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Media person in 1996, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry FLO Award in 2008, ONE India Award in 2014, Siva Prasad Barooah National Award in 2009, Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award in 2008, and many more. In 2000, she was also conferred with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2010. She was also selected for the Northeast Excellence Award in 2011.

Patricia Mukhim is the founder of Shillong, We Care a non-governmental organization which was involved in the feud against militancy in Meghalaya. She was a member of National Security Board of the Government of India. She has constantly served with the motto of communal harmony and peace in Meghalaya. Mukhim is the director of Indigenous Women's Resource Centre, Shillong. She has been a part of many associations and also a member of the National Foundation of Communal Harmony, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, India. Also a former member of Meghalaya Planning Board, she also serves as an advisor to the North Eastern Institute of Development Studies (NEIDS).


It is no secret that a good chunk of development funds go to the coffers of the sundry militant outfits.

She is also a very renowned author, and has contributed to many books under the titles, Khasi Matrilineal Society – Challenges in the 21st Century, When Hens Crow, and many more. She has attended and addressed many conferences around the world such as Japan, Thailand, Palestine, Hawaii, Switzerland, Israel, North and South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the African continent. She has also featured in televisions and radio shows, to convey the idea of humanity to the mass.

She has been serving humanity for peace at her best since last many years. Her works have constantly ensured the unity of India and its peace. She has been very much successful at maintaining her role in strengthening and improving the conditions of conflicts among the local people in the Khasi Hills. She has been triumphant in following the ideologies of Shri Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel of united India.
